Meet Our #LMAMN October Meeting Sponsor (And Prize Information!)

At our October Meeting, Minnesuing Acres will be drawing a lucky winner’s name from the attendees for a weekend at the Island House at Minnesuing Acres.

This beautiful house sleeps 8 and has all of the cozy comforts of a modern cabin on the shores of Lake Nebagamon.

Don’t miss the chance to be a winner in October!

Minnesuing Acres is nestled within the majestic woods of northern Wisconsin, just 30 minutes from Duluth. We offer rustic charm, spacious meeting facilities, modern amenities and endless group fun — including golf and tennis, canoeing, biking, paddle boarding, sporting clays, boating and in the winter snowmobiling, cross country skiing and ice skating. Whether you’re planning an executive retreat for your company, a summer family reunion or a special “destination wedding, it’s one great escape.

Businesses and organizations love coming to Minnesuing Acres. Our professional facilities are perfectly designed for motivational meetings, learning sessions, new product launches, celebrations and brainstorming. The configurable conference room is spacious and bright with large tables and comfortable chairs for up to 175 people. We also offer a variety of team building activities, facilitated by our staff…everything from the “Amazing Race” scavenger hunt, to your very own customized Olympics—and for the more adventurous, —raft building on Lake Minnesuing!

We offer activities that appeal to every age, mood and energy level, from the adventurous to the relaxed. This summer try canoeing, kayaking, or paddle boarding on the lake, our state of the art sporting clays, and our fun night golf event. If you’re into fishing, you’ll love our stocked trout pond, where you don’t need a WI fishing license to wet a line! Those less adventurous can still enjoy our indoor gameroom with a bowling alley, foosball and pool tables plus a movie theater. Finally, to truly pamper yourself, sign up for a private massage, conducted by our own massage therapist.

We’re famous for our superb home cooking and on-site baking! And our portions will satisfy even the heartiest appetites. Breakfast or brunch, a morning coffee break, lunch, an afternoon coffee break, dinner and late-night snacks are all included in the daily rate. Cocktail parties with hors d’oeuvres can be arranged in the Great Hall or on the patio. Our boathouse is the perfect space for social hour receptions and dinners.

Focusing on diversity and inclusion is critical for succeeding in today’s hyper-competitive legal economy. The law firms that are able to truly advance diversity goals and develop inclusive cultures will reap tremendous benefits; those that don’t, will be left behind. So, how should firms respond? How can Business Development and Legal Marketing Professionals advance diversity and inclusion in their organizations? Hear from directors of diversity and inclusion initiatives at firms that are leading in this field. They will discuss what it takes to implement and sustain a true, successful firm-wide commitment to diversity and provide practical takeaways and tips for attendees.
About the Presenters:
Valerie Jackson is the Senior Advisor to the Management Committee and Firmwide Director of Diversity and Inclusion for K&L Gates. Currently based in southern California (and on Delta Airlines), Valerie advises the firm’s Management Committee on talent and business development and leads the firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts across nearly 50 offices in the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East. Valerie serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) and on the Executive Leadership Board of the DuPont Minority Counsel Network. Valerie was named a 2015 NALP Diversity Champion and received The Network Journal’s “40 Under 40 Achievement Award” in 2012. Previously, she served as Director of Diversity at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan and as Assistant Director, International Affairs at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) in Washington, D.C. A native Atlantan, she also practiced securities law with King & Spalding earlier in her career. Valerie received her A.B., cum laude, from Harvard University and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
Kristine McKinney is an expert in leading cultural change in organizations to help better reflect their values. As the Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Faegre Baker Daniels, she leads firmwide efforts to attract, retain and advance a workforce that embraces and celebrates diversity and inclusion. During her time at FaegreBD, the firm has been named a “Best Law Firm for Women” by Working Mother Media, received Gold Standard Certification by Women in Law Empowerment Forum, was recognized by the Center for Legal Inclusiveness as an “Outstanding Law Firm Member,” and received 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index. Kristine shares her knowledge and talents through serving on professional boards and committees, publishing diversity-related articles, and speaking at conferences and community events. She is actively involved with numerous organizations including Twin Cities Diversity in Practice, the Center for Legal Inclusiveness, the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms, NALP and the Association of Law Firm Diversity Professionals. Kristine received her B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Minnesota and her M.S. in Learning and Organizational Change from Northwestern University.
